Hello and welcome!
My name is Lizzie and I run this blog. As you may be able to gather from the name, this blog is a collection of all the foods and recipes that I like best. There’s a big variety, with healthy options sitting alongside some decadent baking ideas, and of course, all our family’s traditional favourites. If I like it, it goes on here!
I’ve always been passionate about food. I’m one of those people who eats for the enjoyment of it. For me, mealtimes are an event. But this has become even more so the case due to the situation from which I am writing this page. I have started my blog this year, in 2020, where we are currently experiencing the Global Pandemic of Covid-19. I am 18 and should have been sitting my A-Level Exams this year, but they have unfortunately been cancelled. When I should have been sat revising stressfully for my upcoming exams, I suddenly found myself with a whole lot of free time. Not even being able to go see my friends, I turned to cooking. I went from making one meal every few weeks, to becoming pretty much the head chef of the family. I finally had the time to try out all the things I wished I could make, but never got round to before.
With plans to go to university next year, I decided I wanted to write all my favourite recipes down in my recipe book so I could find them easily. But then I had the idea to start this blog instead. I had mountains of free time on my hands and had always wanted to build a website. What better way to document my favourite meals than to have them easily accessible all in one place? And so Lizzie Likes was born.

While I have always relished food and cooking, more recently I have also come to learn about the importance of what we put into our bodies. In the past few years, my family have become more aware of where our ingredients are coming from, as well as the importance of good nutrition. I used to be a somewhat picky eater when it came to things like vegetables, but I have come to realise that was because I was viewing them all wrong. Often, the taste of food depends entirely on how you cook and season it. Since we started buying our vegetables from the organic company Abel and Cole, everything changed. Not only are the vegetables themselves so full of flavour, but their salad recipes are insanely good. They put together ingredients in a magical way that just makes them taste so absolutely delicious. I have tried recipes full of vegetables I thought I disliked, only to find out I actually love them when cooked in the right way. I hope you will all enjoy some new healthy recipes on this blog, and learn to love new foods, as I have done.

That being said, I also have a massive sweet tooth. While there are plenty of healthier dessert recipes out there, sometimes you just can’t beat the real thing. So, most of my baking and pudding recipes on this blog are not the healthiest but are well worth the effort as a treat. Most of the recipes are family favourites that we have been making for years. Our go-to recipes are generally the best, as they have been tried and tested time after time, and we always go back to them because they’re so good. A bit of baking every now and then is so fun and satisfying, especially during times like these when lots of us are lacking purpose. I hope you enjoy making all my favourites.

Alongside my love of food, the other aspect of this blog is photography. My dad is a professional photographer, so I have always had an interest and basic knowledge of how to work a camera. However, I had never tried anything too serious photography-wise before, so this blog has been a whole new learning curve. I’m still experimenting and learning all the time, but it’s exciting to see my creations come to life of screen in the form of colourful pictures.
I currently live in Manchester, England with my mum, dad, sister, and our beautiful dog. They certainly aren’t complaining about the sudden increase in my cooking, and are all more than willing to test and critique my new creations. We are all big foodies, and the star feature of our kitchen is our chalkboard that hangs above our dining table displaying our weekly menu. Planning our weekly meals has become a Sunday afternoon event nowadays – it’s about the most exciting thing to happen to us at the moment!
I hope you find new recipes on this site and will give them a go. My main goal is to have all of my favourites in one place, and it’s so exciting knowing I can share them all with anyone who wants to read them! If you do try one of my recipes, be sure to leave a comment in the comments section. I’d love to hear any feedback and for us all to share our experiences.
Thanks for visiting, and please sign up for my new recipes below.
Lizzie
